Horse ridingGo
for a ride round the surrounding countryside - beginners and experienced riders
catered for. From the newest rider to the serious trail rider you can find a horse
to suit your skill. If you have your own horse, we have stabling available outside
The Linhay. E-mail us for details.

Cycle Route Planning at The Linhay
There are miles of quiet roads and tracks to follow, we can advise on routes from
a couple of easy miles on lanes, to more adventurous mixed rides on and off-road
which could keep you busy all day.
|

It is usual to cycle
or walk, at any time of the year, for several hours along the lanes, paths and
bridleways around and about The Linhay and meet only one or two people on the
way. The birdsong, glimpses of shy wildlife and the fabulous countryside being
your constant companions. We can suggest out-line or detailed routes for
you to follow. We like to spend much of our free time walking or cycling in the
area. Our teenage children enjoy finding challenging off-road routes for their
mountain bikes where they can practise their downhill skills and lung-busting
climbs.
Country walksRelax
and stroll round the quiet country lanes, or be more adventurous and go for a
proper hike over Exmoor or Dartmoor. Wherever you go you can always stop
off at one of the delightful country pubs for refreshment. Only
4 miles away is Haddon Hill, the edge of Exmoor where you can walk for miles on
the moor, or perhaps walk round Wimbleball Lake. There you are bound to see some
Exmoor ponies, like the one above.

Cycling
and Mountain bikingDevon
has more roads than any other county. This does not include the roads which are
not used by vehicles and have become green lanes and bridleways. Cyclists
can gently bicycle to the shops or pub. Bampton is only just over a mile away
along a flat road. The more adventurous can go off-road on the numerous tracks
that cover the area and which can easily be reached in a few minutes from The
Linhay. We have secure storage available for your bikes. If
you cannot bring your own cycle, there are also places to hire bikes. You can
cycle on disused railway lines which are now recogised cycle paths - the most
spectacular being along the Tarka Trail in North Devon.

Part
of the Millennium Cycle Route - The West Country Way - passes through Bampton,
past the Linhay and on to Dulverton on the quiet lanes. If you like cycling, there
is a signed route through Devon and Somerset for you to follow, thanks to the
hard work of Sustrans a charity dedicated to
providing safe routes for cyclists, walkers, riders and people with disabilities.
