Ilfracombe is a busy seaside town with a lovely atmosphere and an interesting new theatre, The Landmark, right on the seafront. There are regular productions and a summer spectacular each year, or just visit the cafe/bar which has a great view out to sea. On a rough day you can watch the waves crashing outside while you have a drink or meal.

The seaside - sandy beaches & rugged cliff walks

The numerous beaches of North Somerset, North Devon and South Devon are all within comfortable day-trip distance.

Our nearest beach (about 18 miles) is Blue Anchor Bay. Here there are rock pools for dipping, interesting cliff and rock formations as well as a fairly sandy beach suitable for swimming from.

North Devon has spectacular sandy beaches: Saunton Sands and Putsborough Sands, Woolacombe have miles of beautiful golden sand and Croyde Bay is famous for its surf and delicious ice cream with an optional dollop of clotted cream - this is allowed if you are on holiday!

For the adventurous, you can hire surf boards, surf canoes and all the gear by the hour, half day or full day at these beaches.

Visit Exmouth for a traditional British seaside day out, or Watchet for its historic harbour and sea fishing trips.

The Topsham ferry over the Exe estuary

Hire bikes or canoes at Exeter Quay, walk or or take a boat down the canal, and travel down the beautiful Exe estuary towards Topsham and Exmouth.
